Creating a smile can change a life! Orthodontics is not only a very positive experience for my patients, but for me too!   It is a privilege to be able to participate in this process and see the wonderful results we create.

The work I do is deeply satisfying on a personal level and I have to pinch myself now and then to be sure it's really true that this is my job. Earning my patient's trust through listening, communicating, and striving to meet their goals is the core of what I do every day.

My education has given me a strong foundation and the training necessary to provide my patients with the highest quality of care.  I completed my entire education at the University of Washington and earned the following degrees:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS), 1973
  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS), 1982
  • Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD, Orthodontics), 1989
  • Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD), 1991

Continuing education is just as important as having an excellent traditional orthodontic education. The treatments and techniques used in orthodontics are constantly changing, and it’s important to me that I stay up-to-date so that I can offer my patients the most advanced treatment options available. I attend numerous continuing education courses each year and also lecture at continuing education courses, assuring that I am well informed about all emerging elements of orthodontics.

Community Involvement

Staying active in my community is an important aspect of my life. I was initially drawn to orthodontics after seeing a population without access to orthodontic care on the Navajo reservation. Since then, I have established a school fluoride rinse program on Navajo reservations. I also sponsor Water First, the Smile Train, and have worked at the Children’s Home Society.

Family Life

I am a native of Cleveland, Ohio and have been a Seattle resident for the past 40 years. I have one lovely daughter, Mariel, who is in Middle School, and a cat named Mango. When I’m not in the office, I can be found watching my daughter’s sports and activities and staying active outdoors. I enjoy skiing, climbing, windsurfing, and scuba diving.
